Yesterday PUP members, SNAP recipients, clergy and supporters gathered outside Reading Terminal to call for immediate funding of SNAP. 42 million people across the country rely on it to put food on the table. 40% of them are children.
After weeks of using hungry Americans as pawns in his effort to make the Democrats give up their fight for affordable healthcare, President Trump last night signed legislation that will end the shutdown without any guarantees of continued health insurance subsidies.
SNAP recipients should soon see their benefits coming in, but they won’t forget that the administration deliberately kept food off their tables for weeks.
PUP will continue fighting to protect our safety net.
