The US Department of Agriculture announced that there is no funding for SNAP starting in November. They blame the federal government shutdown, but there have been shutdowns before and SNAP has always continued.
They have been refusing to use emergency funds to shore up the program despite court orders to do so, and are letting 42 million people go without support in November.
2 million people in PA rely on the program to put food on the table. If Congress can get paid and eat during the shutdown, why can’t hungry children?
A group of clergy and other supporters will be engaging in an all-day fast in support of SNAP.
